The liver is a humble organ that is always taken for granted. A diagnosis of fatty liver {better known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), previously known as non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)}, is still accidental in most cases. There is confusion and a sudden realization among patients that there is more to liver ailment than just hepatitis.
MASLD rarely occurs in isolation, rather there are other co-existing morbidities present; diabesity, hypertension, to name a few. This creates a burden on an already overwhelming health condition that impacts the #qualityoflife . There is a barrage of questions; how, why, what to do. It is a fact, there is stigma associated with fatty liver as well. So where do those affected by MASLD find social support?
A support group, a first in #India dedicated exclusively to NAFLD/MASLD patients, listens and provides support, that I host every first Sunday of the month in a virtual set up. This is a place to find social support, encouragement and reinforcement to stay motivated to bring about the desired changes for the sake of otherwise neglected liver health. Write to me at info@nafldnutrition.in should you want to attend the meeting slated for March 3, 2024.
